Gardening with your dog or cat is fun

Gardening is great fun for you and your pets. I have never been much of a gardnerer but recently started growing some heirloom tomatoes, beets, etc. It's very relaxing and is good for the whole family to get outside. Season is early but we already grew one tomato, a beet (pictured) and some broccoli. My huskies Bleu and Legend love to watch us in the garden and soak up the sunshine! Legend looks oh so cuddly above but he is quite a mischievious creature. We kept noticing that there were nibbles on our squash and pumpkin plants. It was very odd and we thought that rabbits or bugs were eating the leaves off. We even found some where a few pieces of the leaves were left. Sure enough, I caught my mischievous doggie chomping on the squash plants. Thank goodness he doesn't like the strawberry leaves and tomato plants. He is just having fun pretending he is a billy goat instead of a dog!

Doberman Head Tremors--Holistic Care Can Help

Q: What is the brand name of the "Digestzymes" you use? A LOT of hits come up by petting Digestzymes in the search bar and there must be a hundred different companies/formulas. What do you use for "parathyroid" support? My 20 month old male Dobermann is having small, sporadic head tremors recently.

Please help. I can't stand his life being anything but absolute perfect happiness 24/7. He is my reason for living

A: We understand how upsetting your doberman's head tremors must be. Many people (even some medical professionals) don't comprehend what it is like as it is a very unusual type of condition and unless you witness it, it is very hard to understand. Basically, a head tremor is when a dog's head starts uncontrollably shaking from side to side. It can last for a few minutes and what seems like eternity. It looks similar to those bobbing dog statues. Unlike a doll however, in this case, it is your beloved dog who is suffering.

Holistic care can definitely control the frequency of canine head tremors. Unfortunately, there isn't a simple formula--ie. give your dog these two supplements and the problem will go away. We use K9 Digestive Enzymes, featured on AskAriel. K9 Digestive Enzymes helps dogs and cats improve the absorption of nutrients, enhances digestion and reduces gas and diarrhea. It is good for any pet whether they have head tremors or not. The parathyroid supplement, and other supplements should be carefully reviewed by a veterinarian or veterinary professional before administering.

Here is what is needed to reduce the frequency of head tremors:
1) Put your pet on a grain-free hypoallergenic diet
2) Use Omega oils such as Amazing Omegas
3) Do not use any treats that contain gluten, corn, chicken, etc--all that contain potential allergens that could trigger an attack
4) Use a digestive enzyme such as the Digestzymes mentioned above that will ensure your dog properly absorbs the nutrients in the food
5) Work with a veterinary professional to determine what your dog's triggers are: e.g. low blood sugar, calcium deficiency, food allergies

Dr. Gordon and I provide holistic telephone consultations to help dog owners whose pets have complex health issues such as head tremors. After reviewing your dog's laboratory tests, we would develop a complete holistic plan for your dog including a special diet, supplements and other holistic modalities you can use to help your dog's head tremors. One thing is for sure--holistic care definitely does reduce head tremors in dogs. We have had tremendous success because many times the triggers (differ depending upon each dog's unique circumstance) are common daily foods and activities that you may not even realize could be a problem for your dog. March 2011

"Happy New Year! Thank you for keeping our Labrador Stanley well. He just celebrated his 9th Birthday! After his cancer diagnosis in early September, we all wondered if he would be here for Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then his birthday.

He has not seen his general vet or specialist since his diagnosis. We attribute his wellness to your products! YOU have BLESSED us immensely! Each time we receive an order from you, somehow Stanley knows "his ladies from California have sent him a package."

Our heartfelt gratitude to all of you!

Minature Schnauzer with Pancreatitis Benefits From Holistic Care

Hello Susan,

I just wanted to drop you a quick note again to say thanks.
Sadly, our dog, Sparky passed away on January 16 this year. He was feeling fine until the last day or two. But on that day, while laying next to me on the couch watching TV, he had heart failure and mercifully died quickly. Our vet said that along with his diabetes, and a "mass" on his liver (we never knew if it was benign or malignant) he also had a heart murmur.

Looking back on last year at this time, he had a serious bout of pancreatitis. But with your helpful and kind nutrition guidance, we were able to pull him through that and he enjoyed another year of quality life - walks in the park, eating normally, fun rides in the car, etc. We were blessed to have had that time with him. Your guidance helped Sparky have that year with us and we are very thankful.

Hopefully, when the time comes for us to adopt another animal friend, we will remember the lessons we learned from you.

Best regards,
Paul Mally

Special Teddy Finds His New Forever Home

"Teddy"

Soooo precious! What a tail wagger! Two year old Teddy is a lovable, affectionate, cuddly, Maltese/Papillon mix. Teddy was confiscated from the home of an animal hoarder and was brought to the Orange County Animal Care Center (a high-kill shelter in Orange, CA). Teddy was born with misshapen front legs. He also was very neglected, covered in mats from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.

When Teddy was brought to the shelter, he was very scared and shy. He wasn't used to getting human attention. The shelter wasn't even sure if he was going to be able to be adopted. Ariel Rescue saw that Teddy needed help! Teddy was adopted out of the shelter by one of Ariel Rescue's volunteers. Then he was taken to the vet for an exam. The vet said that Teddy had very strong back legs and a strong back -- very good news for Teddy! However the vet found that Teddy did have a hernia that needed to be surgically repaired. Teddy did get the surgery that he needed. He was fostered in an Ariel Rescue volunteer's home, where he recovered from his surgery. He was given very nutritious food to eat and lots of loving attention.

We don't think that Teddy had ever been groomed before. He was given his very first "beauty bath". He was then introduced to a doggie blow-drier. Teddy did very well being blow-dried after his bath. All his mats were then clipped away and he was given his first hair-cut. He learned to liked being brushed and fussed over. He now looks like a completely different dog than the one who was so neglected.

Teddy has turned out to be a very playful, fun-loving dog. He is able to get around quite well by hopping on his back legs and scooting on his chest. While he was being fostered, he would play with his doggie toys, throwing them up in the air and then chasing them. He could even climb up onto his foster mom's lap! He also had fun playing with the other Ariel Rescue dog that was also being fostered.

Teddy has now found his new forever home with a wonderful woman who has two other dogs. Teddy spends his days playing with his new doggie friends and his new mom. Teddy never again has to be the lonely, scared, sad dog passed over at the shelter. Now he is the pampered, well-loved dog that he deserves to be. Labrador Retriever with Chronic Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) Improves with Nutrition and Supplements

Dear Susan:

I am writing this testimonial so that others like me who are very hesitant to follow instructions from someone (I didn't even know) on the internet can possibly help their dog. Like most people, my dog, Sophie is a part of the family and when she is not doing well, it affects us all. She had recurrent urinary tract inflections that became resistant to antibiotics. And as a result of the large amount of antibiotics, she started to have digestive and itching issues. One thing led to another and after two different vets, with multiple visits, costing lots of money and no improvement I was extremely frustrated at the very least.

After much internet research I came upon, Susan Davis, someone who took the time to explain the importance of proper nutrition for dogs and the extreme role that it plays in their health. I must admit that I was hesitant as first as I looked at the cost of some of the natural supplements and food changes. However, when comparing it to the continuing veterinary bills and medication it ends up to be less expensive. But more importantly, I was able to stop the cycle of ill health (UTI'S, digestive etc) and Sophie was so much happier and healthier!

Susan not only gives you solid advice on how to help your animal feel better but truly cares about you (the owner) and the dog as you can feel it in her compassionate way of discussing the nutritional plan that she sees fit your your particular situation. I could go on and on but suffice it to say that I would highly recommend her and the Ask Ariel supplements and/or other supplements that she feels is appropriate.

Sincerely,
Sandy & Sophie

Note to the reader: Sophie is a pet therapy dog and was recently featured in this article. Click this link to learn more about the wonderful work beautiful Sophie does helping those who are sick in the hospital.

Blossom Finds Her New Forever Home

"Blossom"

What a sweetie! Blossom is an absolutely adorable three year old Australian Shepherd / Sheltie mix!

She was brought into the Orange County Animal Care Center (a high-kill shelter in Orange, CA), along with her one year old son. She had a litter of puppies and her owner kept her and her last puppy alone in the backyard for the entire year. Then both dogs were turned into the shelter. Her puppy got adopted right away, but Blossom was so shy, the shelter wasn't even sure if she was going to be able to be adopted. Ariel Rescue saw that Blossom needed help!

Blossom was adopted out of the shelter by one of Ariel Rescue's volunteers. Then she was taken to the vet for an exam. She was fostered in an Ariel Rescue volunteer's home, where she received her "beauty bath" and was given very nutritious food to eat. Blossom lived up to her name and "blossomed" into a brand new dog.

Blossom has now found her new forever home with a retired school teacher. Blossom spends her days taking walks to the park and cuddling up at the feet of her new "mom" while her new mom reads at the park. Blossom never again has to be the lonely, scared, sad dog passed over at the shelter. Now she is the pampered, well-loved dog that she deserves to be.

Emmett Finds His New Forever Home

"Emmett"

What a sweetie! Emmett is an absolutely adorable 4 year old Bichon Frise / Miniature Poodle mix. He was brought into the Orange County Animal Care Center (a high-kill shelter in Orange, CA). His owners were contacted but they never picked him up. Emmett was at the Orange County Animal Care Center for a whole month -- he was running out of time. Ariel Rescue saw that Emmett needed help!

Emmett was adopted out of the shelter by one of Ariel Rescue's volunteers. Then he was taken to the vet for an exam. He needed eye medication because his dirty hair had been in his eyes. He was fostered in an Ariel Rescue volunteer's home, where he received his "beauty bath" and was given very nutritious food to eat. After one week, his eyes were healed and he was ready for his new home.

Emmett has now found his new forever home with an older couple. Emmett spends his days taking walks and snuggling in the lap of his new "dad". Emmett never again has to be the sad dog passed over at the shelter. Now he is the pampered, well-loved dog that he deserves to be.

Chihuahua with Kidney Disease improves with Kidney Supplements

Dear Ask Ariel,

"I am writing to thank you for your site and products. On New Years Eve I took my 18 month chihuahua Loki to the vet. He had not been eating, was sleeping all the time and was losing weight. He only weighs 2.5 lbs and could not afford to lose weight. I was told by the vet that he had renal failure and would not live long as the treatment and or dialysis for him would be very expensive. I was heartbroken to say the least.

I began to search the internet to try to find something that could help my baby. There was your site, www.askariel.com. I ordered the Cat and Dog Kidney Disease (No-Pill) Package and Kidney Health -- Protein Support For Pets) and I am happy to say that Loki is back to normal. Eating, playing with his sister, running around the house just as if he had never been sick. Thank you so much for the work you do. "

Sincerely,

Ruth Christian

Cat with Inflammatory Bowel Disease IBD Improves using Digestive Supplements

"Snookie"

Snookie has inflammatory bowel disease and has been close to passing away on several occasions. I think the last time they would have put her to asleep, but i was alone and crying so they put her in the hospital for two days on fluids and told me I need to prepare myself and be strong.

They called me and told me to bring her home for the weekend and say my goodbyes. She was so ill and i was heartbroken. I ordered two supplements~ The Soothing Digestive Relief and the Power Probiotic for Snookie and started them that weekend. After one capsule of each, she was a new cat! It was a true miracle!!! ... literally, ONE CAPSULE!!She was no longer in pain, no longer throwing up and was running around playing and purring!!! I was so amazed!!

It has been almost a year and she is still doing so great! She still takes her steroids every other day, but she is no longer in pain and is a very active happy cat! I am so thankful that you gave me more precious time with my Snookie!!

Thank you so very much!

Cocker Spaniel with Mammary Tumor improves using Canine Cancer Supplements

"Cookie"

Cookie is my senior cocker spaniel/dachshund mix rescued a few years ago. Just over a year ago, she had a malignant mammary tumor removed and it was suggested that she have chemotherapy immediately thereafter so it wouldn't come back.

Instead, I did some research for alternatives, found Ask Ariel, and then decided to try the OncoPet and Immune Harmony cancer package. It is obvious that Cookie's health only got better from that point on and I am grateful to Susan Davis for her advice and fabulous products!
Cookie also benefits from Phosphatidyl Serine for her Cushing's Disease, Amazing Omegas, and Power Probiotic.

Thanks also to the Ask Ariel team for superb customer service and fabulous bonus gifts. It is clear that you all care very much about your customers and their furbabies!

Thanks again!!

Cat with Hair Loss is growing hair back with the help of AskAriel

Miracles Do Happen!
"Reine"
Reine appears a lot happier this week than she has been in a long time. She is purring again, tail held high in the air, and very animated. We both think her fur is growing back in. It will take awhile for her tail to look fluffy again as her fur is very fine. But the base of her tail does not look barren the way it has. At this point in time, even though I haven't observed her new behavior for a long period of time, she appears to be getting better by the day. We feel very encouraged for the first time in 1 1/2 years, thanks to you! You have figured out the cause.
Thank you from both of us,

Cat With Renal Failure (CRF) Improves with Kidney Health

My cat, Petals, was diagnosed with renal failure from her blood work. And, indeed, she was urinating frequently. After I had her teeth cleaned under general anesthesia, she seemed worse. By worse, I mean, she was urinating lots more and thereby drinking more water to quench her thirst. Even though I fed her raw food for cats with good results, Petals craved her favorite treat and I gave it to her not knowing that it contained high crude protein. She began vomiting her meals and grew weak and listless. I thought she was going to die.

For two days she could hardly walk while I kept her hydrated with a eye dropper. I began making funeral plans in my mind--basically wondering at what point should I take her to my vet to put her under. Then my order of Kidney Health from Ask Ariel arrived. I had decided to order it as a last ditch effort, wondering if its power to help kidneys flush out toxins would help my cuddly pet. And help it did! It was like night and day.

Within hours she was eating and not coughing up her wet food. Better yet, she was drinking water on her own and getting stronger. Today she does not urinate excessively. She acts like a healthy cat with a great appetite! Because she is18 years old, I have learned to buy all foods and treats with low protein; and I give her Kidney Health daily. I was so concerned that Petals would not ingest foods mixed with Kidney Health (she's fussy that way). I found that she eats with the same amount of gusto, doesn't hesitate, when her meals contain the Kidney Health powder! I'm so pleased.I believe I'll have my little companion around for an even longer time! Thank you, Ariel! Bless you! Alice

Canine Kidney Disease, Canine Heart Problems Improved

"I would like to thank Susan Davis for all of her knowledge and expertise in nutrition and diet. My Archie and Noonie would not be here today if I hadn't found her! Through her instruction, we have corrected the heart problem Archie had and the kidney problem Noonie had. My vet is amazed and to me, it is no less than a miracle! Susan has taught me how to keep them healthy and happy in their "golden years"

I also want to thank her staff at Ask Ariel Your Pet Nutritionist. They have never failed to get my supplements here on time and exactly as I ordered them. And I must say, Archie looks forward to seeing me open the packages, because he knows there will be a surprise waiting inside for him. He loves the little toys you send and constantly carries them around."

Diet for 6 year old Yorkie

Q: Thankfully, I stumbled onto your blog ;)

Can you please tell me what things I can make for my 6 year old yorkie. I'm not sure what I should or shouldn't be feeding her.

A: This is a terrific question! We work with many, many yorkies and there is no "one" perfect diet that is right for all of them. The reason is that yorkies can have many sensitivities and it is very important to monitor their health. Some yorkies can have a predisposition to liver problems, pancreatitis, IBD and other digestive conditions. So.....without knowing your yorkie's medical history, it would be very difficult to give you specific suggestions.

As a first step however, I would highly recommend getting laboratory tests done on your yorkie including a blood panel and urine analysis. Many times, yorkies, with their sweet nature, may appear playful and fine but in reality, could be having some health concerns. A lot of the time, pet owners may confuse picky eating, especially with yorkies as a more "humanized" cuteness but the reality is--could be an indicator of an underlying stomach acid problem. Since this is quite common, I would recommend using a high quality Probiotic, such as our Power Probiotic to help your Yorkie with overall digestion and good health. This will help prevent digestive problems, especially as she gets older.

If you have already had your yorkie's health completely evaluated, then use some general principles to select the right food and treats for your dog. Do not give Yorkies high-fat foods ever, e.g. peanut butter, cream cheese, cheese, etc--these can be very hard on their digestive system. Use lean meats and plenty of vegetables. Try to use a hypoallergenic, balanced diet. Remember also that what might seem like a small portion, could be a lot for a small adorable Yorkie! If you would like a more detailed, custom diet specifically developed for your yorkie, please know that Susan Davis, our nutritionist, would be happy to help and offer telephone consultations.
