National Rescue Dog Day

National Rescue Dog Day brings awareness to the countless number of adoptable dogs in shelters and rescues that need loving homes. Through no fault of their own, these dogs have been abandoned or neglected and deserve a second chance at a furever home. You can find a wonderful dog of every breed (yes purebreds!), size and age on
Petfinder.com As the proud Mom of a rescue dog and fellow rescuer, I can definitively say that rescue dogs are every bit as trainable, loveable and well-behaved as dogs from a breeder or pet store. While some (like my Legend) have overcome extreme obstacles, rescue dogs teach us that love and trust can be restored even if prior promises were broken. On National Rescue Dog Day, we also want to thank the volunteers, rescuers and shelter staff that work tirelessly to save the lives of these deserving pets! Please consider adopting a shelter dog and save a life!

Happy National Dog Mom's Day!

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate all the dog moms everywhere. National Dog Mom's Day is recognized on the second Saturday of May each year. Today, we celebrate not just the joy and laughter your pups bring into your lives but also the incredible responsibility and love that comes with caring for them, especially when they're not feeling their best. Being a dog mom means being there through sickness and health, providing comfort during those restless nights, and ensuring your fur baby receives the best care possible.

Caring for a sick pet can be emotionally challenging, yet it showcases the depth of the bond between a dog mom and her beloved canine companion. It involves monitoring their symptoms, administering medications, and making those tough decisions with compassion and care. It's a testament to the unwavering dedication that defines the true essence of being a dog mom.

Today, let's not only celebrate the joyous moments but also acknowledge the strength, resilience, and love that dog moms demonstrate when their furry friends are facing health challenges. Your commitment to their well-being is nothing short of heroic. We know your dog appreciates all of your time and dedication. They may not be able to buy you a present, but they can give you the best gift of all: unconditional love.  To all the dog moms providing comfort, love, and care during the tough times – you are appreciated, admired, and celebrated! We hope you can shower your pup with extra love and attention today because a happy dog makes a happy mom!

May Is National Chip Your Pet Month

Lost pets that have a microchip are far more likely to be reunited with their owners than pets without a chip. The month of May has been designated as National Chip Your Pet Month to encourage microchipping as a way to help protect your pet. A microchip is a radio-frequency identification transponder (RFID) that is as small as a grain of rice. The implant procedure is as simple as getting a vaccine. The chip is usually inserted between your pet's shoulder blades. Each chip has a unique identification number that you can connect with your contact information. All pets should wear a collar and name tag, but those can fall off or become hard to read. A microchip can help protect your pet for life. Microchipping is a safe and effective way to link you to your pet…..it’s hip to chip!

How To Help Senior Cats With Kidney Disease

Kidney disease is most commonly seen in older-aged cats. Even if they have not been diagnosed with kidney disease, most cats over 15 years of age will have some renal insufficiency. Senior cats may become more finicky with their food, drink more water, or just stop eating breakfast for example. Kidney disease can make pets feel nauseated and cause them to vomit. It is a progressive condition but the rate can vary depending upon the cat's diet, supplements and overall health. Ask Ariel's Kidney Health is an all-natural, veterinary-approved proteolytic enzyme supplement that breaks down protein and assists the kidneys to eliminate metabolic waste. This tasteless, easy-to-use powder reduces the workload on the kidneys and can be mixed into food. It can be used with any senior cat to help maintain healthy kidney function.

What Helped Murray?

In 2021, our sweet Murray was suddenly diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma and he had a tumor the size of a honey-dew melon in his abdomen! At age 12, we were told he might not be a candidate for surgery so we were mentally devastated. With an amazing medical team, the tumor (an entire lobe of his liver) and his gallbladder were successfully removed, and Murray is about to have his 13th birthday! In his recovery process, it was hard to determine the root cause of cancer, but tests identified that he has acute Pancreatitis and with his gallbladder also removed, we had to make significant adjustments to his diet! As I was researching his condition, I stumbled into the Ask Ariel website and felt like I found a miracle! Today Murray gets a blend of the K-9 Pancreatitis and Liver Kit as well as Gastro ULC. Overnight, his stool changed dramatically, and he has had more energy than he’d had in the past 2 years! I am so grateful for Ask Ariel’s products and also for the incredible team who always offers thoughtful feedback and support for Murray!! Thank you Ask Ariel!!

The Importance Of Lab Testing- Legend's Scare

When you have an older pet, every day is truly a gift. We had a little scare with Legend but everything is ok. Older pets should get laboratory testing more frequently even if your pet feels fine. The lab testing and exams provide a baseline so that health issues can be caught early AND so that you can know if something new needs investigating. Since Legend is 13 1/2 we bring him monthly to Dr. Gordon Arch Beach Veterinary Clinic. Legend needs to have a small growth removed next week so we repeated bloodwork. His blood work had been done 3 months before and several new issues cropped up. One was really scary: elevated calcium. Elevated calcium can be related to health issues like kidney disease but most often is a marker of cancer, specifically lymphoma and sometimes anal gland cancer. We are so thankful to Dr. Gordon, as he had a packed schedule the next day, but he squeezed us in for a second more accurate test called ionized calcium which had Legend’s value in the normal range (high end). All I can say is PHEW! I was so glad we had done the lab test 3 months prior as it gave us a baseline. We were able to eliminate other issues quickly because of the other tests and exams. If there had been cancer, we would have been in a much better position to find it quickly as early diagnoses can provide the best prognosis. Thank you all so much for your support. We want to urge you to please get your pets their laboratory testing more frequently. The tests are expensive but they can provide a myriad of information and give you more time with your pet.

Does Your Dog Have Stinky Ears?

Does your dog have stinky ears? Ear infections are one of the most common reasons for foul doggie odor. They are often caused by allergies, bacteria or yeast overgrowth and can become a chronic problem. Other signs of dog ear infections are: head shaking, pawing at ears, goop or redness inside the ears. Contact your veterinarian right away if your pet has ear issues. If left untreated, ear infections can cause deafness. Use K9 Yeast Defense, AlllerEaze and Power Probiotic along with treatments from your veterinarian to control yeast. Change your dog’s diet by avoiding foods high in carbohydrates. Avoid allergens such as poultry and beef. Please include your dog’s diet and treats on the order form at checkout. We can provide diet tips for chronic ear infections on the packing slip that comes with the product directions.
