March is National Nutrition Month® which originated in 1973 as an annual nutrition
education and information campaign by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It
is intended to help spotlight the importance of eating a nutritious diet and developing an eating and physical activity plan for a healthy lifestyle.
Although this was intended for people, we would
like to extend this to pets. Dogs and cats should eat a healthy balance between
protein, fiber, fats (especially Omega 3 fatty acids) and limited carbohydrates.
Many pet foods that claim to be “healthy” contain ingredients that can
contribute to a variety of problems including allergies and urinary tract infections.
