Does Your Dog Still Smell After A Bath?

You give your dog a bath but  there is still an odor even after the scented shampoos and grooming products, but why? If your dog still smells after getting a bath, it is important to bring this issue to your veterinarian's attention.

Common Reasons Why a Dog May Smell After a Bath

Ear Infections

A dog with an ear infection will have a distinct odor and a bath will not help.  The water can even make it worse. Signs of an ear infection: strong odor coming from the ear, dog shaking her head, pawing at ears, goop or redness inside the ears. Chronic ear infections can lead to deafness----please don't try to fix it yourself.

K9 Yeast Defense and Power Probiotic --Some dogs with allergies can have symptoms of yeast overgrowth such as chronic ear infections, odor (even after bathing), itchy ears, licking at the groin, scratching the face and armpits. K9 Yeast Defense can be used along with any of our allergy formulas to prevent chronic yeast infections, ear scratching and itchy ears. How it works: K9 Yeast Defense contains natural anti-fungal ingredients such as caprylic acid, Pau d'arco and oregano that kill off yeast and help rebalance the intestinal tract.  Ask Ariel's yeast protocol kills off the yeast overgrowth while the Power Probiotic replenishes with healthy, friendly bacteria.  Works best when used along with NotaSAN.

Dental Disease or Bad Breath

The unpleasant odor may be coming from your pet’s mouth. Decaying teeth and infected gums can have a very foul smell and you may notice your pet hesitating to eat and/or their gums may be red and swollen.  Dental infections are painful and can lead to  other medical conditions so please bring your pet to the veterinarian.

Inflamed Skin

Hot spots can spread quickly and hair loss can occur as well. Please bring your pet to the veterinarian as soon as possible to get the inflamed skin under control.

Infected Anal Glands

The two small scent sacs produce a substance that is used for “marking” and has an odor, but if they become infected the scent becomes very foul smelling. A sign the anal glands may be infected/impacted is when you notice your dog scooting her butt on the floor.  Your veterinarian can drain the sac and help clear the infection.
