Why Do Dogs Bury Their Bones?

Thousands of years ago when dogs roamed the wild, burying bones and surplus food was a means of survival. Burying the food acted as a natural preservative (keeping it cooler and out of the sunlight), improved the flavor and provided a hiding place from scavengers. This ensured they would have a tasty treat available in times of need.

Dogs today still have this ancestral urge and you may notice them attempting to bury and hide their food and treats. However, food and bones are not the only things some dogs bury. Some dogs cannot resist shiny objects and often people will find their jewelry and bling buried under a cushion or in the dog’s bed. If this is a regular occurrence, it is important to know it usually occurs when the dog is lonely and bored, and an effort should be made to provide a source of entertainment to relieve boredom.

Your Cat's Most Important Sense...The Sense of Smell

Cats have twice as many olfactory cells as humans (over 200) and their sense of smell is one of their most important senses. It allows them to find food, determine if it is safe, identify who has been in an area (and if friend or foe) and helps them find their way home if lost.

As you can imagine, when a cat develops a Feline Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) and their sense of smell is disrupted, it is very stressful for them.  URI symptoms include: sneezing, congestion, runny nose, cough, change in nasal discharge and decreased appetite. Viral Infections are the most common cause of the symptoms in cats, but allergies to pollen, dust, mold and household cleaners can also causes be the culprits and contribute to rhinitis or sinusitis (inflammation of the nose or sinuses). Using the Asthma and Immune Support Kit  can help with a URI or chronic rhinitis or sinusitis. The combination of the three natural remedies will help fight a viral or bacterial infection and can help your cat breathe better.

Power Probiotic for Pets Helps Cats Heal from Giardia

"Ask Ariel Your Pet Nutritionist is an amazing company. They offer only the best supplements, and with a personal touch. They keep in contact and ask how your pet is doing. It's super nice. Hooray for small businesses!

Our favorite product has been their Power Probiotic. Mom tried countless other probiotics for us, but this is the only one to actually give visible results. Marshmellow and I for a time due to healing from giardia, had runny bowel movements that nothing else improved, and the Power Probiotic actually helped firm them up! We highly recommend AskAriel products!"

Giardia, a microscopic protozoan parasite, can affect cats, posing concerns for owners, particularly in multi-cat households. This waterborne parasite typically affects the gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss in infected cats. In multi-cat environments, the risk of giardia transmission increases due to close living quarters and shared resources. Cats may contract giardia through contaminated water, feces, or surfaces, emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene in litter boxes and communal spaces. Regular veterinary check-ups and fecal examinations are essential in detecting and addressing giardia infections promptly. Additionally, preventing overcrowding, providing clean water sources, and promptly addressing any signs of illness can help mitigate the risk of giardia spreading among cats in a multi-pet setting.

How Probiotics Can Help Cats With Giardia

Probiotics can play a beneficial role in supporting cats with Giardia infections by promoting a healthy balance of gut microflora. Giardia disrupts the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, causing diarrhea and other digestive issues. Probiotics are live microorganisms, primarily beneficial bacteria, that can enhance the gut's microbial diversity and restore a healthier balance. When administered to cats with Giardia, probiotics help in several ways:

Restoration of Gut Flora:
Giardia infections can lead to an imbalance in the cat's gut microbiota. Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains, can help restore the natural balance of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract, promoting a healthier environment for nutrient absorption and overall gut function.

Enhanced Immune Response:
Probiotics contribute to the strengthening of the immune system. By promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, they help modulate the immune response, assisting the cat's natural defenses in combating the Giardia infection. A robust immune system is crucial for a quicker recovery.

Reduction of Diarrhea and Inflammation:
Probiotics have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and can help alleviate diarrhea associated with Giardia infections. By stabilizing the gut environment and promoting a healthy mucosal lining, probiotics may reduce the severity and duration of gastrointestinal symptoms.

Competitive Exclusion of Pathogens:
Probiotics can compete with harmful pathogens, including Giardia, for space and resources in the gut. By establishing themselves in the digestive tract, probiotics create an environment less conducive to the survival and proliferation of the parasite, potentially aiding in its expulsion from the system.

Natural Remedy For Asthma in Cats and Dogs

Asthma and Immune Support Kit
Does your pet have the potentially life-threatening condition Asthma?

Asthma is essentially an allergic reaction from exposure to an environmental allergen. Feline Asthma is much more common, but dogs can suffer from asthma too. The most common clue is breathing difficulty from inflammation and mucus build-up that can block their airway. Seek veterinary help right away if you see signs of coughing and wheezing, loss of energy, and in severe case, if  the gums are pale or blue.

Common allergens that can cause asthma attacks are: smoke, household cleaners, air fresheners and perfumes, burning candles and other airborne pollutants. A little prevention can go a long way in helping your pet avoid attacks. Try to make your asthmatic pet’s living environment an allergen free zone. Avoid using toxic cleaners, strong perfumes and smoking near your pet and remove sources of airborne allergens such as dusty carpets, pollen producing plants, and mold.

Feeding a hypoallergenic diet along with a using our Asthma Support Kit can greatly help.

Talk To Your Pets About What To Expect During The Holidays

Guest Post by Bonnie Taplin

Ever wonder what your pets really think about the holidays?  You may be asking--what could they possibly be “thinking” about at all?!  As an Animal Communicator, I can assure you, there is no question whatsoever that animals have thoughts.  And what about all the excitement (aka “stress”) over parties, bringing home packages/gifts, guests arriving, and the hustle-bustle of all that holiday time involves?  It’s one of the most special times of the year — but some household changes can cause distress in our pets.

Animals are creatures of habit, and disruptions to their daily schedules can result in behavioral changes or health issues.  Possible scenarios include toileting in inappropriate places, unusual aggressiveness, or eating concerns.  With almost 12 years of experience listening to and talking with animals, I have heard some very interesting stories.  I recall a request from a returning client who contacted me just after Christmas.  Her 10-year old Yorkie suddenly became lame, with no apparent cause.  When I spoke with little Tiger, he explained that on Christmas, he overheard a visiting family member commenting on how much he had aged.  Consequently, he believed that he must be so old, that he couldn’t walk!  After doing some energy healing on him, I explained that he was completely able to walk again…and he did!

Just like we humans have different reactions to stressful situations, so do the animals.   The best we can do when new or stressful situations occur in our lives, to help our pets stay healthy and happy, is  TALK to them!  Explain as you would with a young child exactly what you expect to take place.

How to Keep Your Pets Comfortable and Happy During The Holidays

1.       Talk to your pet about what events will be happening
2.       Explain to your pet any possible changes to their daily routine
3.       Tell your pet in advance where their bed, bowls, litter box, etc.,
will be – don’t just move the items
4.       To reassure your pet that everything will be ok, remain calm and stay positive

Bonnie Taplin is an intuitive and caring Animal Communicator who is available for affordable consultations to pet parents by telephone or in person.  For more information, please call Bonnie at (949) 636-5500 or visit her website www.bonnietaplin.com  Wishing you and your pets a safe and happy holiday season!

 Prayer For Mom:

We Remember Them by Sylvan Kamens & Rabbi Jack Riemer

At the rising sun and at its going down; We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter; We remember them.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring; We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer; We remember them.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn; We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends; We remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength; We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart; We remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make; We remember them.
When we have joy we crave to share; We remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs; We remember them.
For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as, We remember them.
